It took over five years of trying different mono sizes, wire types, lengths, weight attachment methods and hooks to prefect the castable shark rig.
6 feet of 80lb mono - when shark fishing, you need a piece of mono that is longer than the shark that you are going to catch (6ft of mono + 3ft of wire = 9 total feet). If it’s skin touches your braid, it will pop your line. We moved away from really heavy mono because we like to be able to have a longer section and reel some of the mono into the guides. An extra swivel comes enclosed in the package and can be used to attach it to your main line, however we highly suggest that you FG knot the mono to your braid.Â
511lb Might Mini stainless steel swivel
Coastlock swivel with stop strategically placed to enable further casting while also keeping the weight off of the bait.
3 feet of 600lb coated 49 strand stainless steel wire. It is much easier to have a longer section of indestructible wire that you can grab and pull the smaller sharks onto the beach with, than trying to grab their tails or grabbing mono and risking breaking off (even heavy mono knicks and weakens).
